family literacy workshops

The Glendale Public Library sponsors our Family Literacy Workshops that focus on providing safe opportunities to teach parents how to help themselves and their children improve their literacy skills. It’s a time for parents to spend quality time with their children while learning how to improve literacy throughout the family unit.

A majority of our families are either primarily Spanish-speaking or mono-lingual at home. Because of this, children have a difficult time coming into American classrooms where they are expected to be able to communicate effectively in English. The language and literacy barriers also hold stifle many parents’ abilities to earn a higher wage. These workshops directly address both of these issues while building the family unit with healthy, structured activities that leave both parents and children feeling better about themselves and the family dynamic.
