PRESS RELEASE: For release anytime
Local chorus to perform benefit concert
Voice of the Desert Chorus, the West Valley Chapter of Sweet Adelines, will perform a special concert to benefit the Glendale Family Development Center at 7 p.m. Aug. 14 at Theater Works in the Lakes Club, 10484 W. Thunderbird Blvd., Sun City.
Directed by Joanna Moyer of Sun City West, Voice of the Desert will present a 1 1/2 hour show, featuring a small ensemble and an appearance by the popular Surprise Party! quartet.
A social hour and silent auction will take place at 6 p.m. and doors to the theater will open at 6:45. All proceeds will benefit GFDC, which works to break the cycles of illiteracy, abuse and poverty by offering family support services, education and low-cost child care.
Voice of the Desert Chorus was named Most Improved Chorus at regional competition in May, and also earned a second place award in the mid-size chorus division. Formerly known as Cactus Country Chorus, Voice of the Desert changed its name to reflect a new direction and spirit.
GFDC and Voice of the Desert are both 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.
Tickets for the show are $12 and are available at Adultcare Assistance Homecare, Heard Museum West, Glendale Family Development Center and Theater Works. For information, call 977-2223 or visit online, www.familydevcenter.org.
Corporate sponsors of the event are Adultcare Assistance Homecare, Heard Museum West and Irwin Union Bank. The Daily News-Sun and Northwest Valley Newspapers are providing advertising for the event.
