history
Glendale Family Development Center was founded in 1969 as a response to the plight of migrant workers and their families. An ecumenical coalition of five churches raised funds and provided space for a low-cost childcare facility to ensure that these children were nurtured and safe while their families worked in Phoenix area fields.
Since 1969, the Center has served over 75,000 families; and today the Family Development Center’s services address more than the community’s low-cost child care needs. We provide parenting classes, referral services to community resources and through our second-hand retail store, the Mercado, we address the community’s need for low-cost clothing, house wares and furniture.
