what we do
The Glendale Family Development Center is an instant support system for families who need help. When a family first
comes to us, we conduct a screening evaluation. The objective of this screening evaluation is to find out what’s really
going on inside the family unit. There are many times when a family comes in requesting clothing assistance, but really
needs help finding a place to live and help finding employment. There are also families that are not ready for the
services we provide. Some families are in such crisis they are either unwilling to accept the responsibility that our
program requires or are operating at a lower level of function.
Only after we qualify families and meet the families’ basic needs, (safety, food, shelter, clothing), do we assess the ongoing family needs that will support stability. Once we understand the needs from a holistic perspective, we can effectively help the family create a plan of action and help them take the necessary steps to achieve their goals.
When a family is enrolled in our Family Development Program they are required to fully participate in all appropriate Center sponsored activities and classes including completing at least four volunteer hours of service at the Center in addition to a cash contribution (established upon enrollment based on income) every week.
